Havaianas, São Paulo

Alpargatas is the Brazilian manufacturer of Havaianas. The company deserves some serious credit for having turned the humble thong/flip-flop into a commercial success that reaches beyond the Brazilian borders. Not only that, footwear that seemed destined for the feet of the less well-off becomes a symbol of Brazilian design – thanks in part to some skillful marketing.

You will find Havaianas (and comparable products made by the competition) everywhere you go in Brazil. The price of a pair of Havaianas is much lower in Brazil than abroad. For only R$10 you can put a pair of Havaianas on your feet.
