Abbreviations of the names of the Brazilian states

Brazilians often use the initials of the states in place of the full form (this happens quite often on online forms). It can be confusing if you are not familiar with the abbreviations. Here they are (in brackets, the capital of the state):

AC – Acre (Rio Branco)
AL – Alagoas (Maceió)
AM – Amazonas (Manaos)
AP – Amapá (Macapá)
BA – Bahía (Salvador)
CE – Ceará (Fortaleza)
DF – Distrito Federal (Brasilia)
ES – Espírito Santo (Vitória)
