Rio Pass

[IMPORTANT UPDATE: the Rio Pass no longer exists]
—————————————

The Rio Pass has just been announced. It is a pass similar to the one offered in other cities around the world. The question for the tourist is always the same: is it worth it or not?

Let’s have a look at the Rio pass. Its cost is R$93,50. It is valid for 7 days counting from the moment it’s used for the first time. The Rio Pass includes entrance tickets to three major tourist attractions:

- Christ Redeemer, including the train ride, usually costing R$36
- Sugar Loaf mountain, including the cable car ride, usually costing R$44
- tour inside the Maracanã stadium, usually costing R$20

If you are going to the three places mentioned above, the pass has paid will have paid for itself.

The pass also includes a two-hour boat ride around the Guanabara bay, entrance to the Museum of Modern Art and a series of other minor attractions. As well as discounts on shops and restaurants.

Equally important, it includes a free entrance to the Rio Scenarium (tickets cost R$15 from Monday to Thursday, R$25 from Friday to Sunday). And a free beer. There are also free beers to be had at the Devassa and the Bar Luiz and a free drink at the Academia da Cachaça.

All the details about the Río Pass can be read at its website.

I’ll be answering questions on Rio de Janeiro at the entry Destination: Rio de Janeiro.
