Salvador has a double-decker bus similar to the ones you find in other big tourist cities around the globe. The hop on hop off bus is called Salvador Bus and it follows a carefully planned route around the city, visiting most of Salvador tourist attractions along the way.
For R$30 (March 2009) the tourist can hop on and hop off as many times as he likes. There are scores of stops conveniently signposted. The bus has four daily departures.
Among other places visited by the bus, you will find the Rio Vermelho neighbourhood, the Farol da Barra, Campo Grande and the Teatro Castro Alves, the Pelourinho, the Mercado Modelo, the Elevador Lacerda, the iglesia de Bonfim, the Ribeira (with a stop at the Ribeira ice-cream parlour), the Dique to Tororó, the shopping Iguatemi and the modern avenida Tancredo Neves, as well as the beaches of Jardim de Alah and Pituba.
The Salvador Bus website has complete information as well as map.
