São Paulo’s gay parade, the largest in the world

June 16, 2011 | By More

The 2011 edition of the Parada Gay de São Paulo (São Paulo’s gay parade) will take place on Sunday 26 June from 12 pm. The XV Parada do Orgulho LGBT -its official name, will take place in its usual venue, the Avenida Paulista at the heart of the city.

Last year three million people attended the parade, making it the largest of its kind in the world. If you’re planning to arrive in São Paulo near the date it would be a sensible idea to do so with your accommodation booked beforehand. Get to the Avenida Paulista using São Paulo’s underground system and don’t even dream of doing so by car.

The parade takes place in a festive atmosphere and serious incidents are quite rare. There is a strong policy presence.

The parade’s official website contains more information. Make sure you download gay São Paulo, a free gay-friendly guide to the city.
