Air Canada’s commercial director for Brazil announced recently that in 2014 the airline intends to operate regular flights to the Tom Jobim / Galeão International airport in Rio de Janeiro.

Yet another international route being announced on the eve of the 2014 Soccer World Cup while at the same time keeping an eye on the never-decreasing thirst of the Brazilian domestic market for international destinations for their holidays.

Air Canada flies from Toronto to Guarulhos International airport in São Paulo and from October 2013 it will use a Boeing 777 on the route.

The Brazilian Formula 1 Grand Prix will take place between 22 and 24 November. It will be the very final race of the 2013 championship, granting the race a surplus of adrenaline.

It happened in Rio de Janeiro and it is happening in São Paulo too. The youth hostel business is booming. According to trade magazine Panrotas, quoting São Paulo’s tourism authorities, the number of youth hostels in the largest Brazilian city went from 22 in 2011 to 52 in 2013.

Some of the explanations given for the sharp increase are slightly hilarious. The truth is far simpler. With hotel prices rocketing out of control (always on the brink of a new hotel saga), travellers on a budget are having to turn to more affordable means of accommodation.
